減肥（lose weight）已沒有再是另類創舉，它已被人人所回收並成瞭一種默許的審美尺度。要減失落身上那些在他人眼中，或是在本身眼中看來包袱的脂肪，想必食齋是沒有錯的挑選。加上瘋牛病（mad cow disease）、禽流感(bird flu)的輪替突擊，我們亙古未有地感到到素食的主要性。本日我們就來看看幾個和食齋有關的英語表達法：

食素天然和蔬菜有關，英語中有關食齋的詞語也就和vegetable一詞密弗成分。食齋的人分為兩種：

vegetarian素食者，沒有吃任何肉類食物的人

◆The vegetarian restaurant around the corner attracts many tourists each year.

vegan嚴厲的素食者（除肉類外，也沒有沒有吃雞蛋和任何奶成品）

◆She became a vegan after she believed in Buddhism.

除各類蔬菜以外，素食者還會吃些甚麼樣的食品呢？上面是他們能夠挑選的兩種食物：

vegeburger（vegetable+burger）動物卵白餅，即蔬菜包（面包裡夾有蔬菜，固然沒有像漢堡包（hamburger）裡有大塊的肉餅，然則外形上看似肉夾餅，望上一眼，若幹也就充饑瞭）

veg out既可表現過素食者生涯,又可表現過單調死板的日子

◆Vegging out! is dedicated to promoting plant-based food and nutrition, whether you are a vegan, vegetarian, or someone who simply wants to eat more foods from the earth.

◆We found ourselves having nothing to do during the weekend but vegging out for hours watching TV.

除此以外，在一樣平常白話或非正式的場所中，另有兩個簡單的詞語，平日用來表達蔬菜或素食者：veg (=vegetable英國英語), veggie (=vegetarian, 英國英語，或vegetable，美國英語)。
